Our Approach

How We’re Different

Our financial planning process and investment approach is structured so that we can consistently deliver advice to our clients in alignment with their different financial goals.  As a fiduciary, our advice will never be based on commissions or sales and we will strive to give advice in the best interest of the client- You.  Learn more about our Client Centered approach.

Fiduciaries

We serve as fiduciaries. That means that we must always put your interests above all else. As members of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), we adhere to the Fiduciary Oath as follows:

The advisor shall exercise his/her best efforts to act in good faith and in the best interests of the client. The advisor shall provide written disclosure to the client prior to the engagement of the advisor, and thereafter throughout the term of the engagement, of any conflicts of interest, which will or reasonably may compromise the impartiality or independence of the advisor.

The advisor, or any party in which the advisor has a financial interest, does not receive any compensation or other remuneration that is contingent on any client’s purchase or sale of a financial product. The advisor does not receive a fee or other compensation from another party based on the referral of a client or the client’s business.

What the Fiduciary Oath means to the client:

  • The advisor shall always act in good faith and with candor.
  • The advisor shall be proactive in disclosure of any conflicts of interest that may impact the client.
  • The advisor shall not accept any referral fees or compensation that is contingent upon the purchase or sale of a financial product.

Fee-Only

We are Fee-Only advisors. We don’t believe that commissions or sales charges should influence our recommendations to you. That means that the only compensation we receive comes from our clients and not from mutual fund or insurance companies.

Advanced Planning

We offer comprehensive financial planning and investment management in Asheville, NC and nationwide. While most wealth management firms may offer some form of investment advice, less than ten percent offer what we refer to as advanced planning. We start with investments because it’s important, but we quickly begin to focus on the advanced planning areas of wealth optimization (tax-efficient investing), wealth transfer, wealth protection and charitable giving.

Credentials and Education

Each advisor at Woodstone must be CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM  practitioner and a member of The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA).  Both the CFP Board of Standards and NAPFA have strict criteria for membership including ongoing continuing education requirements.
